Trip 84 - Sunday Evening - May 14th
I was watching a bit of tv tonight. Reminded me of some of the very amateur astronomy I have done.
Our Cosmos is made up of atoms. Protons, electrons, neutrons, quarks and another hundred things we know nothing of. Here is a bit of wisdom to impress friends and family.
A hydrogen atom is the simplest of atoms. A proton, and an electron that swirls about the central proton.
If, the proton was about the size of a volleyball, the electron would be about the size of one pixel from the screen you are looking at.
One pixel ...
So. At that scale, how far away from the proton does the electron orbit around it?
Eleven miles.
That makes the diameter, at that scale, of a hydrogen atom twenty two miles. Within that twenty two mile sphere is nothing except a volleyball sized proton.
Absolutely nothing ...
Okay, take a breath.
Carl Sagan called all we can see in our night (and day) skies, "The Cosmos".
From what we know today, The Cosmos is made up of about 70% hydrogen. In between galaxies, the number of atoms per cubic meter, is less than a single atom.
Knowing what exists is 70% hydrogen which is largely empty. Knowing the vast areas between galaxies is empty, just think how empty The Cosmos truly is.
The Creator is indeed, Magnificent ...

I took the cover off the pool for the first time since October 2007.

Now, to clean it up ... Lotsa algae there.
A small thing, that for me, makes life worth living ...

I had to open up the filter and clean it and make sure the pump was up to snuff. A big racket ensued from the bush past the heater.

I looked over and saw the nest. A morning dove set up her home on top of my heater.
I am so blessed to have her make her home in my back yard! I suspended any thought of heating the pool, as, she has to move out first.
Indeed, this is one small thing what makes my life, worth living ...

I dropped Marcia at the airport Sunday night and went to Empty Pockets to pick up some tools and measure for the name against the hull. All is well and the name will be 10" by 70" in vinyl.
I am trying to have it ready to sail by the Fourth of July.
Later ...
